How did you do on our push up challenge a few weeks ago?

Here is a little information to inspire you to keep pushups in your routine

When you recall the days of the Presidential Physical Fitness Test, it is easy to picture a gym of kids down on the floor and doing pushups. This, along the pull up bar arm hang and the sit up sessions are seared into the memories of folks who were kids during the times of these classic tests.

The pushup remains in the rotation of classic exercises in gyms and fitness centers all over the world. This is for good reason. The push up is a great way to light up muscles from top to bottom. “It works several muscle groups at once: the arms, chest, abdomen (core), hips, and legs.” Pushups also can be modified as needed. “By adjusting the speed you perform a pushup, the angle of your body, and even hand placement, you can add more or less intensity, or focus on specific muscles,” says Dr. Phillips. Remember that FORM is vital to getting the most out of your push ups - ask your Prime trainer to help you set up your pushup and work on consistent form. Every time you get down to do them, by keeping your form consistent you can see progress. Of all the exercises you can do, especially on your own at home, pushups are one of the most effective. They are accessible, scalable to your fitness level and beneficial for your whole body.

We know that 50 pushups seems like an impossible challenge, but you may find that the more you do them, the more you can do! By setting goals in our workouts we can see the incremental change over time. This is how we all work toward optimum health and fitness as we age.
