Simple, portable and amazing!

walking is a simple way to supplement your health routine!

While you are at Prime, you do your strength training and your cardio - but what do you do when you are not in the studio?

All you need to supplement your health routine is a bit of time, yourself and a place to walk.  This can be almost anywhere!  Of course, we all know that parks and conservation trails are a wonderful place to go, but have you considered walking laps in Home Depot on a rainy day?  How about the mall?  Walking and engaging in the world around you is enriching on many levels.  Even parking at the far end of the parking lot is a great way to get those extra steps.

A few tips to encourage you while you walk -

  • Listen to music, an audio book or a podcast.

  • Ask a friend to join you.

  • Alternate walking as fast as you can for intervals. Start at 30 seconds fast, 30 seconds at normal pace.

  • Bring a pet - they are happy to go anywhere with you!  Don’t have one?  Borrow one!

  • Set a timer and plan a non-food “reward” for meeting distance goals, like watching an episode of your favorite show or lighting an awesome candle.

  • If you are a TV lover - use the commercial breaks to walk laps around your own home.

  • Use an app like pacer to do virtual races or tours around far away places: https://adventure.mypacer.com/.

Remember ANY walking is a great supplement to your total health routine.  Now go and grab a dog or a friend and walk!

Pro tip: an amazing variety of  free audio books are available at all public libraries.  Simply go and ask the staff how to download and get them on your devices.
